McMinnville Boys Soccer finish top 4 in the State! Become Pacific Conference Champions!
McMinnville High School boys soccer made a statement Monday evening, finishing top 4 in the state of Oregon (6A) and earning their first Pacific Conference championship in 7 years! The team finished the season with an overall record of 11-2-1 (5-0-1 in league), scoring 52 goals and only giving up 11 goals, led by sophomore Edwin “Isai” Cuevas-George scoring 23 goals in 14 games.
Abraham “Cruz” Cuevas-George, Antonio “Tony” Virrueta, Daniel “Danny” Reynaga and Jose “Joey” Farias proved to be detrimental to the teams offensive success, while the likes of Hipolito “Polo” Ramirez Monje (goalkeeper), Ronaldo “Rolo” Grimaldo, Nicholas “Nick” Lozano, Metolius “Toli” Halloran-Steiner, Adan Figueroa, Juan Vargas Bolanos were key defensive players, only conceding 11 goals the whole season, the 4th lowest in the state.
The rest of the roster contributed greatly on a nightly bases with great performances from seniors Gael Hernandez, Jayvier Reyes and Truitt Bjorlin.
This is a special year for a special group of young men, many playing together from a young age, going on to play for some of the top teams in the state! Among the Grizzlies’ squad are 6 State Cup Champions (OYSA), 4 State Cup Finalists, 13 ECNL players and many champions of various tournaments throughout the state!
The Grizzlies are now shifting their gaze to the playoffs where they will take on Sandy at home (Wortman Stadium) Saturday, November 2 at 6:00pm. Every playoff match is a win or go home match with the whole season at stake. Come out and cheer on the team!
